Why Organic?

cottonPitter Patterned uses cotton that has been certified organic (mostly by Global Organic Textile Standards or GOTS), which means it is grown without any harmful pesticides, herbicides, insecticides or artificial fertilizers. It is important to us to use materials that have a low impact on the environment and on cotton handlers. The health benefits and environmental aspects of organically grown cotton are clear; reduced toxins and pollutants, which can infiltrate soil and water in our communities through conventional cotton farming.

According to the Organic Trade Association (OTA), conventionally grown cotton uses approximately 25% of the world’s insecticides and more than 10% of the pesticides. With growing concern that pesticides are at the root of many prevalant childhood illnesses, we think it’s important to use organic products; especially those that will be against a child’s delicate skin.

While we do have a couple products that are produced using conventional cotton, those products are made from fabric that does not have an organic option available. Should a similar organic fabric become available, we will use it! The products we make that are not organic are products which do not need to come into contact with your skin (or your baby/child’s) on a regular basis.

Organic cotton is popular for use in clothing and home textiles (especially baby quilts!) for many reasons. The soft texture and breathable nature make it a great fit for use in children’s nursery bedding. We think you’ll agree that our organic cotton products are so durable and soft you’ll want to snuggle with them all the time!
